Happy Birthday today to Luke Edgell.

On this date in 1889, a New York newspaper reporter named Nellie Bly began her attempt to travel around the world in fewer than 80 days – trying to beat the time of Jules Verne’s fictitious Englishman, Phileas Fogg.  Mrs. Bly would succeed, as she would complete her journey in January…in just over 72 days.  Like Jules Verne, she wrote a book about her adventure, Around the World in 72 Days, which became an immediate best seller.

On this date in 1805, the hot dog was invented.  The inventor was a butcher in Vienna, Austria named Johann Lehner.  He called his new creation a frankfurter.

A small lady’s ring was lost yesterday at CBA.  The ring is silver with a diamond setting.  If you find it, please contact the front office.

Happy Birthday today to Robert Lewis Stevenson.

On this date in 1892, Pudge Heffelfinger became the first professional football player when he was paid $500 by Allegheny for one game against Pittsburgh.

Congratulations to all of our Calvary students who were inducted last night into the CBA chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.

Today is Monday, November 11.  Today is Veterans Day, and we are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to George Patton.

On this date in 1918, the Great War – known to us as World War I – came to an end with the signing of an armistice at 11:00 a.m. on this, the 11th day of the 11th month.  Today was declared a national holiday by Congress and was originally a remembrance of the ending of the Great War.  But as America fought more wars and more Americans died defending freedom, Veterans Day has become a time to remember all the wars and the sacrifices of all the men and women who have served in America’s Armed Forces through the years.

Congratulations to our Cavalier wrestlers on their success at the Warrior Open Wrestling Tournament this past weekend.

Congratulations to our Cavalier cross-country team that competed in the Lakeside Anthill meet at Minden on Saturday.  Thank you for representing CBA well.

Today is Friday, November 8.  We are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to Fox Locke.  Happy Birthday Sunday to Landon Fontenot.

On this date in 1512, Michelangelo’s paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome were first exhibited to the public.  It had taken Michelangelo four years to draw and paint the more than 300 figures on the 5000 square foot ceiling 60 feet above the floor of the Chapel.

Congratulations to our Cavalier varsity football team on their victory over Arcadia last night.  We will announce the playoff schedule as soon as we receive it.

Today is Thursday, November 7.  We are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to Billy Graham

On this date in 1820, James Monroe, the 5th President of the United States, was re-elected.  President Monroe had run unopposed in the general election, but one elector did not vote for him  The reason (according to legend) was so that George Washington would remain the only president unanimously chosen by the electoral college.

Congratulations to our Lady Cavs varsity volleyball team on their fine season.  The Lady Cavs finished their season yesterday, falling in three sets to the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs in bi-district play.  Thank you, girls and coaches for representing CBA well this year.

Today is Wednesday, November 6.  We are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to James Naismith

On this date in 1869, the first official college football game was played.  Rutgers beat Princeton 6-4.  In a re-match one week later, Princeton beat Rutgers 8-0.  These were the only two games played that first season in 1869, so the first national championship was split between the only two school to play that year.

Congratulations to our Cavalier middle school football team on their fine season.  Thank you for representing CBA well this year.

Today is Christmas Photo Day at CBA.  Cowen Studios will be taking Christmas pictures this morning.  All students who are not getting their pictures made should be in regular school dress code today.   

Any high school student interested in a career in architecture or engineering, please see Mrs. Trammel today to be added to the list of students taking a tour of local firms.

The softball fundraiser bean bag toss scheduled for November 16 has been cancelled.

Today is Tuesday, November 5.  Today is Guy Fawkes Day, and we are on chapel schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to Jaylon Bell

On this date in 1605, Englishman Guy Fawkes was captured before he could blow up the English Parliament with 26 barrels of gunpowder he had planted below the buildings the night before.  Every November 5th, Britain celebrates Guy Fawkes Day with fireworks to celebrate his failure to blow up Parliament and King James 1 six years before the publication of the King James Bible translation.

Congratulations to all of last night’s inductees into the Calvary chapter of the National Honor Society.

Tomorrow will be Christmas Photo Day at CBA.  Cowen Studios will be taking Christmas pictures, and you may dress in Christmas colors and clothing if you are going to have your picture taken.  The regular school dress code will apply if you are not having your picture taken.

Happy Birthday today to Will Rogers

On this date in 1939, at the 40th National Automobile Show, the first air-conditioned car was put on display.  The car was a Packard One-Eighty, and the “weather-conditioner” unit, as it was called, took up about half of the car’s trunk space.

Congratulations to our varsity football team on their victory over Haynesville last Friday.  This week, the Cavaliers will play on Thursday, when they travel to Arcadia to finish their district regular season.

Congratulations to our Cavalier Swim and cross-country teams who competed in Ruston this past Saturday.  Thank you for representing CBA well.   

Congratulations, also, to our CBA grapplers on their success Saturday in the North Louisiana Takedown Tournament.  Christian Otzenberger took first place in his weight division and was named Outstanding Wrestler.  Dillon Creech to 3rd place.  Great job Calvary wrestling team!

Today is Friday, November 1.  We are on pep rally schedule today, with a pep rally scheduled at 2:30.

Happy Birthday today to Katie Bouchard.  Happy Birthday this weekend to Keithen Burns, Abby Fondren, and Isabella Fowler on Saturday and to Jimmy Wright on Sunday.

On this date in 1800, President John Adams moved into the White House, becoming the first President to live there.

Congratulations to our Lady Cavs volleyball teams on their enthusiasm and effort last night against West Monroe and on their fine season so far.

Next Wednesday will be Christmas Photo Day at CBA.  Cowen Studios will be taking Christmas pictures, and you may dress in Christmas colors and clothing if you are going to have your picture taken.  The regular school dress code will apply if you are not having your picture taken.

Students, please do not bring blankets to school.  The CBA dress code allows you to dress appropriately to stay warm when the weather is cold.  You do not need to have a blanket.
