Happy Birthday today to James Harris.

On this date in 1877, Thomas Edison, who is known for many inventions, invented the word, Hello.  Hello did not exist before August 15, 1877.  The telephone had recently been invented by Alexander Graham Bell, and people needed something to say when they answered it.  Mr. Bell was all for the word Ahoy to be the greeting, but Mr. Edison pushed for Hello, and Hello  eventually won out.

Middle School softball tryouts for grades 6 through 8 will be held next Monday, August 22, and Tuesday, August 23 from 3:30-4:30 at the high school softball field.

On this date in 1874, Mr. Harry Parmelee of New Haven, Connecticut received a patent for the lawn sprinkler, giving us a good way to keep our lawns watered and something to play in and cool off in hot weather.
