Congratulations to our Cavalier boys’ basketball team on their 56-44 victory over Hamilton Christian last night in the semi-final round of the state basketball playoffs.  Calvary now advances to the Division IV state championship game against Crescent City.  Crescent City will host that game, which will be this week.

Today is Tuesday, March 10.  We are on regular schedule today.  We will not have Chapel.

Happy Birthday today to Lance Berkman.

On this date in 1941, the Brooklyn Dodgers announced that their players would start wearing batting helmets when at the plate during the upcoming 1941 season.  It would be several years before the other major league teams would quit being hard-headed and follow the example set by the Dodgers.

Today is a half day for High School.  We will be on regular bell schedule, and students in grades 9-12 will be dismissed following 4th hour (11:45 am).  Middle school will be on regular schedule until 3:00.

This evening’s varsity softball game with Lincoln Prep has been moved to Thursday, March 19.

Happy Birthday today to Colby Edington.

On this date in 1959, the first Barbie doll made its appearance.  Since then, Barbie has been a busy girl, in addition to owning of over 40 pets and driving a pink Corvette convertible and Jeep, she holds a pilot’s license and sometimes flies commercial airliners when she is not serving as a flight attendant.

Congratulations to our Cavalier boys’ basketball team on their 78-75 victory over Opelousas Catholic in the Division IV playoff quarterfinals last Friday night.  The Cavaliers now advance to the semi-final round, where they will take on the number two seed, Hamilton Christian, tomorrow night at 7:00 in Lake Charles.

Congratulations  to our Lady Cavs varsity softball team on their three victories in the Ruston Tournament this past weekend.

Congratulations to our Cavalier baseball team on their Saturday afternoon 4-2 win at Sterlington.

Tomorrow will be a half day for High School.  We will be on regular bell schedule, and students in grades 9-12 will be dismissed following 4th hour (11:45 am).  Middle school will be on regular schedule until 3:00.

If you are planning to go to Lake Charles for tomorrow’s basketball game, gym doors will open at 5:30 and all tickets will be $10.

Today is Friday, March 6.  We are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to Sophia Chance, Jacob King, and Layton Terrell.  Happy Birthday Sunday to Matthew Blaydes and Jack Hillebrand.

On this date in 1836, the 13-day siege of the Alamo by Mexican dictator Santa Anna ended as the Mexican army of 3000 wiped out the last of the 189 volunteers who were defending the Alamo.   The volunteers, which included Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett, had been able to delay the Mexican army long enough to allow General Sam Houston to prepare his troops, and 46 days from today’s date, with a battle cry of “Remember the Alamo”, the Texas army defeated Santa Anna and won independence for Texas.

The third nine-weeks grading period ends today.  Make sure that all your work is completed and turned in.

Today is Thursday, March 5.  We are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to Blake Speight, Grace White, Dakota Wineinger, and Mason Woodle.

On this date in 1855, the United States Congress appropriated $30,000 to ship camels to the western states.  The Mexican-American War had resulted in the United States now owning vast amounts of land in the west, and camels were seen as a hope for more economical transportation across the area between Texas and California.  33 camels were purchased and put into service, but while they were very well suited to the climate of the American Southwest, their presence frightened the Army’s horses and mules, and the camel project was eventually abandoned.

Remember that the third nine-weeks grading period ends this Friday.  Make sure that all your work is completed and turned in this week.

Our Varsity boys’ basketball team will take on Opelousas Catholic in a playoff quarterfinal round Friday at 6:00 in Opelousas.  If you plan to go the game, admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Happy Birthday today to Rick Perry.

On this date in 1877, Emile Berliner invented the microphone.  Good thing, too, because Alexander Graham Bell’s company trying to develop the telephone was nearly bankrupt and in desperate need of something to save it from financial ruin.  The two inventors came up with a way to put Mr. Berliner’s microphone on a wooden box, add a crank, an earpiece, some wires, and the telephone was born.

Congratulations to our Cavalier basketball team on their 66-44 regional round victory over Vermillion Catholic last night.  Next up for the Cavaliers will be a trip to Opelousas to take on Catholic high school in the quarterfinals round on Friday.

Remember that the third nine-weeks grading period ends this Friday.  Make sure that all your work is completed and turned in this week.

This afternoon we will have a combined special chapel at 1:30.  High school 6th hour classes will be dismissed to the Worship Center at 1:20 and will sit in their regular chapel location.  Middle school 6th hour classes will dismiss at 1:25 and sit in the balcony.

On this date in 1931, The Star Spangled Banner was made the American National Anthem by a congressional resolution signed by President Herbert Hoover.  The song was originally a poem, written by Francis Scott Key, called “The Defence of Fort McHenry”.

Congratulations to our boys and girls powerlifting teams on their performance last weekend at the North Regionals in Ruston.  The girls finished runner-up to West Monroe, and the boys finished third behind West Monroe and Ruston.  The girls were led by 1st place finishes from Kailey Brookshire, Kaylin Little, Aubrey Mayo, and Skylar Odom.  Mya Evans and Hannah Guerrero each placed second, and Emma Lazarus was third in her division.  The boys were led by Cameron Fileccia’s 1st place finish, second place finishes by Roderick Harris, Cameron Thomas, and Joseph Wilson, and 3rd place finishes from Latarraus Jackson and Jordan Wallace. 

Congratulations to our Lady Cavs softball team on their success against Pineville yesterday.

On this date in 1962, professional basketball player Wilt Chamberlain set the NBA record when he scored 100 points as Philadelphia beat the New York Knicks.  He scored 59 points in only one half, and for the game he made 36 field goals and 28 free throws – all NBA records.

Happy Birthday today to Dean Smith.  Happy Birthday tomorrow to Noah Trant, and Happy Birthday Sunday to Kaci Kennedy and Kolby Thomas.

On this date in 1849, regular steamship service from the East Coast to the West Coast was established when the SS California arrived in San Francisco.  The ship had left New York harbor on October 6.  Even though being on a ship for five months to go from New York to California seems like a long time to us, it was the fastest way across the country in 1849.

There will be a track and field meeting for girls this afternoon at 3:15 in Coach Hester’s room, N-104.

On this date in 1980, the United States Olympic Ice Hockey team won its “Do you believe in miracles?” gold medal, beating Finland 4-2.  The drama had begun two days earlier when the United States team of amateur collegians upset the heavily-favored Soviet professional team.  It was in this venue that the U-S-A chant was heard nationwide for the first time, and when the American team polished off Finland for the gold, Believe became the buzz word all across America.

Congratulations to our Cavalier wrestlers on their fine season.  Calvary finished with 12.5 points at the LHSAA state championships at Century Link last weekend.  Thank you for representing CBA well this season.

On this date in 1932, the United States won the bobsled competition at the Winter Olympic games in Lake Placid, New York.  It was the first time that the U.S. had competed in the bobsled.  The winning 4-man team included Edward Eagan, who also been the 1920 Olympic heavyweight boxing champion.  His bobsled gold medal made him the first person to win gold medals in both the summer and winter Olympic games.

On this date in 1964, the United States press reported that “millions of teen-aged boys are spending extra time in front of the mirror trying to make their hair look like Paul McCartney’s” the day after the Beatles made their first American TV appearance on Sunday night’s Ed Sullivan Show, singing She Loves You and I Want to Hold Your Hand.

Congratulations to our Lady Cavs and Cavalier soccer teams on their fine seasons.  Last Thursday evening, our Calvary girls finished their season in Slidell, and on Friday the boys fell to Northlake Christian 2-1 to end their season.  Thank you for representing CBA well this year.

Congratulations to D’Marcus Hall on being selected to play on the West team in this year’s LHSBCA All-star game March 21 in Bossier City.

This week is Valentines Dress-up Week, and Today is Red-Out Day.   Isaiah 1:18 reads,  Come let us reason together says the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet they shall be white as snow; though they be red like crimson they shall be white as wool.

Today is Friday, February 7.  We are on regular schedule today.

Happy Birthday today to Laura Ingalls.

On this date in 1964, the Beatles arrived in the United States for the first time.  After receiving a send-off by several thousand fans in London, the group arrived at Kennedy Airport in New York City to be greeted by 200 reporters and a crowd of 4,000 screaming American girls.

Next week will be Valentines Dress-up Week.  Next week’s theme will be 1 John 4:19We love because He first loved us.

Monday will be Red Out Day, Tuesday – Candy Heart Day, Wednesday – Twin Day, Thursday – Crazy Heart Day, and Friday will be Go Cavs Go Day.  

Participation will cost $5, regardless of whether you dress up all week or just one day.  Anyone who chooses not to participate will be required to be in regular school uniform.

Best Wishes to our Cavalier boys’ basketball team as they visit Magnolia Charter this evening.  Tip-off will be at 7:15.

Josh Purvis and Cayden Simmons will be competing in the Louisiana State JV wrestling tournament in New Orleans today and Saturday.  Please keep them in your prayers.

Our Lady Cavs soccer team is headed home from Slidell today after their first-round match with Pope John Paul.   Our Cavalier boys are scheduled play Northlake Christian this afternoon at 5:30.  Please keep both groups in your prayers.
